Wedding Cakes Tip

The last thing you want is your wedding cake to collapse in front of your guests. To prevent a collapsable cake, make sure you get it from a reputable baker who knows the construction of a wedding cake.

There are plenty of ways to stay within your budget on a cake. Just tell your baker your budget, and they will get it done, within reason. No baker is going to sell you a wedding cake for .50 per serving. Just not happening. A sheet cake usually runs $1.00 per serving. So get a simple, one tier cake for you, and sheets in the back room for everyone else. Your caterer or your mom, can cut it up. Same delicious cake.

Making your own cake, or having Aunt Dora do it, is a huge mistake, and one I guarantee you will regret for the rest of your life. Especially when you look at the photos!

Making your own wedding cake
by: Helen (website owner)

While many home-made wedding cakes may look amateur and may not be the greatest thing for photographs, the cake is, in my opinion, one of the items you could actually do away with to save on your budget.

Even the best value ones from a baker will cost a fair bit and a yummy dessert is far more preferable for many people than a cake after a big meal.

At my wedding, we actually forgot about the cake as we were having so much fun, so no-one got to taste it except the people who were still staying locally the following lunchtime.

My wedding dress supplier actually made it - a mountain cake by special request - as it was one of her hobbies and she did a great job. It looked good and it didn't cost a great deal either.
