Amazing Wedding Cakes
How to pay less!
Brides to be can have the most amazing wedding cakes if they use a few tricks.
Here we share a few secrets for cutting your cake budget.
If you are planning to use a professional baker to make your wedding cake, don't
mention the "W" word straightaway or even at all if you can help it!
The price will rise by 10-20% immediately once the "wedding" word is used. This approach works best
if you don't want a tiered wedding cake as these tend to be a bit of a giveaway!
If you HAVE to have tiers, then there are plenty of ways to cheat! Ask your supplier
about making the bottom (biggest and most expensive!) tiers as "fakes."
These can be icing covered foam rounds or squares that look like the real thing but actually
cost a few cents. Great for a big wedding as the real "fake" parts of the cake can be kept
behind the scenes to serve after the cake cutting. No-one will ever know!
On the same theme, why not just order a top tier or a cake just for the bride and groom to cut?
Aagin your guests can be served the same "cake" without the decorations.
An even cheaper idea is to have your main cake (and eat it of course!)
then give your guests a cupcake wedding cake. You can even have the big cake in a cupcake style to match!
See our unusual cakes page for details.

Hire a catering student to make your wedding cake. If they are looking to put together a great portfolio,
they may be willing to help. You buy the ingredients, discuss your design and you can have a designer
wedding cake for a couple of hundred dollars!
Or why not "rent" a cake? I know this sounds weird but there are firms now who realise that
$1000+ cakes are simply not viable for today's modern brides
You can hire an amazing cake for your cake cutting photos and still offer
a delicious "normal" cake to your guests. Again you don't need to tell anyone!
DIY brides can obviously consider making their own fabulous cake at
a snip of the price of a professionally made one. Take a look at our wedding cake recipes if
you think you are up to it.
