Always visit the patisserie store before ordering for a tasting.

Fillings vary from expensive and heavy fruit to light sponges, chocolate, lemon or toffee, all laden with alcohol if required of course...just to add more to the bottom line!

Don't forget you can vary the fillings if you are having a tiered cake. A good way to lower the cost a little.

Fancy fondant decorations will add to the cost so don't get carried away and don't be afraid to ask your cake supplier to simplify the design to lower the price. Any time saved on cake decorating will cut down on labor costs!

Check the delivery costs. Most specialist wedding cake suppliers will only deliver within a small radius as shipping a hand made wedding cake is simply not practical. You can save money by "carefully" collecting it yourself.

Did you know? Royal weddings in the UK traditionally have no less than ELEVEN designer wedding cakes. Don't know why but the cake bill is probably more than most small wedding total budgets!
