Bridal Shower Poems
For an original toast to the bride

• A bridal shower is a girly romantic thing and poems are a lovely sentimental way to add a special touch to the day.

• Choose from classic romantic poets like the wonderful Odes from Keats or take snippets from romantic novels.

• Are you the bridal shower organiser? Then get the bridesmaids together and write a joint poem. Base it around a rhyming limerick to start with if experiencing writers block!

  Here's an example:

  " Helen and Al are tying the knot.
  And this bridal shower is gonna be hot!
  Gifts sure to make it one hell of a night,
  And certain to make Helen squeal with delight!"

Planning a Bridal Shower with Poems

When sending out invitations, ask guests to compose a wedding shower verse to accompany their gift to the bride.

Some shower guests will be natural born poets whilst others will be terrified at having to put pen to paper! There's no obligation but a few poems will help break the ice and give opportunity for strangers to get to know one another at the party.

The mother of the bride can use a verse as an alternative to giving a speech and it's much easier to read a poem from a lovingly prepared sheet than ad lib a wedding speech!

It's a great way to tell a bride about some of the more important aspects of being married whilst also revelling in the excitement and happiness of such an occasion.

A personal favorite wedding shower poem is this one taken from the novel Captain Corelli's Mandolin - my husband's brother read it at the church on our wedding day and it brought tears to my eyes as it's so beautiful:

Love is a temporary madness.

It erupts like a volcano and then subsides.

Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion.

Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away and subsided.

When all the pretty blossom has fallen from the branches and your roots have so entwined together underground that it is inconceivable that you should ever part...
