Beach Wedding Vows
Write your own wedding poem!

Write your own beach wedding vows to make your marriage in the sun truly unique.
An island wedding is a real break with tradition so why not choose your own wedding vows in keeping
with the more casual nature of the whole affair?
Beach Weddings - Saying "I Do"
-
Your wedding vows are, traditionally, a really important part of the marriage ceremony
but that doesn't mean they can't have a modern contemporary twist.
-
Writing your own vows to make them more personal sounds like fun but actually writing them isn't.
Putting your feelings for your partner down on paper may come easily to you but what about your husband to be?
Will he feel comfortable writing his own vows, after all you don't want to write them for him!
-
It's important to sit down together to throw around some ideas as to what you might want to say.
If ideas don't come easily, there are plenty of places to look for help as others will have written their own vows before you.
-
For inspiration you could look at love poems or just write down 10 things about each other that you adore.
Or you can ask advice from the pastor or wedding officials that will preside over the ceremony. They will have plenty
of suggestions for you.
Beach Wedding Ideas - Love Poems
One idea for your beach wedding vows is to recite a love poem, either one you have written yourself or one
borrowed or begged from someone else!
Whilst ancient phrases like
"Beauty is truth, truth beauty," - that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know
written by the famous Romantic poet Keates are way too heavy for the beach, modern poets like
Nicholas Gordon have plenty of poems available online for free.
Here's an excerpt from one of his poems:
The vows I take will be forever:
I'll love you all my life.
There's no part way, no holding back
Once we are man and wife.
The choice is made, and now I swim
In a far different sea,
The shores of which are bright green hills
Raised up for you and me.
Beach Themed Wedding Vows
If you're feeling really creative, why not match your beach wedding vows with the theme of your marriage?
The above poem for instance can be used for a nautical theme or you could talk about your love for the things you like to do together
if the theme of your wedding is your hobby!
If still struggling for ideas, simply add a couple of personal phrases onto the traditional vows to make
them that bit more special.
Here's an example:
"I take you as my husband/wife, and promise to walk by your side forever,
as your best friend, your lover, and your soul mate.
I promise to support your dreams and to be there for you for all of our lives."
Finally, don't forget that the style of many island beach wedding ceremonies, especially in places like Hawaii,
is far more relaxed. Whilst they conform to tradition by incorporating many of the traditional wedding vows, the
wording is altered so that it feels far more contemporary. This can be unique enough for many couples.
